That was his enemy, the squirrels. Frank hated them. It was like he thought they were all of a sudden going to stop running around with acorns and attack the Oldsmobile. We all thought it was pretty funny until Frank’s accident. That was two years ago. We were driving on Route 218 when Frank saw a squirrel, and he must have thought it was a really dangerous-looking squirrel because he jumped out the car window to get it.

The thing was, we were going, like, fifty miles an hour. Becky screamed, and Dad stopped the car and we all ran back, and Frank was lying by the side of the road, and right away you could see something was wrong with his legs. He was hurt bad, but when Becky got to him he kind of thumped his tail on the ground to let her know he was sorry he couldn’t get up and say hi but he was glad to see her.
